Oh cool, I actually tried playing with those settings before and forgot, because I couldn't get it to do very much. But I just cleared the sw_particle* entries from my config and then tried again and it works. Not sure what I did the first time, but OK!

With this build I can't use custom render modes, at least not my preferred one (1920x1200).

This build doesn't change the q2dos video code, whatever that max resolution is. 1920x1200... could be a Dell M6300 laptop?

1920x1200 is a standard 16:10 enthusiast monitor. Mine is a Dell U2412M. All of the video modes in q2dos appear to be 4:3.

Never mind I was using the wrong gamex86.dll, forget I said anything! :oops:

Videos of Quake II with the software renderer. Hopefully I will be able to do the whole game like this. It's a shame this renderer can't be paired with a port that supports interface scaling.

I enjoyed watching these. It's always good to see how an engine looks on someone else's machine.
The video quality is excellent. What did you use for capture, and file format?

I started work on interface scaling based on Yamagi Q2, and might get back to it after the next super8 update.

I use nVidia Shadowplay to record videos, in mp4 format, 1920x1200 @ 60 fps. It's much better than something like Fraps because it uses the GPU to encode the video. New videos are added daily, tonight I will add Unit 2 part 2. This one may be slightly lower quality because I have to stitch together two files because Shadowplay overran the file size limit and split the video, and therefore have to re-encode the whole thing. It would perhaps be a bit better if I were a better player, but not a whole lot I can do about that except practice.
